Measuring your wellbeing impact

Our Senior Civil Society Lead, Ingrid Abreu Scherer, introduces our online guidance for understanding an organisation’s wellbeing impact and developing wellbeing evaluations.

The measuring wellbeing website was developed with support from voluntary sector organisations and partners. It is a practical introduction to designing wellbeing evaluations, and brings together advice and guidance on wellbeing measures and data.

The digital guide includes eight modules that cover:

  • Introduction to wellbeing theory and evidence
  • Planning a wellbeing evaluation
  • Quantitative and qualitative approaches
  • Analysing and Interpreting results
  • A Wellbeing Measures Bank

This is a self-guided website, which you can use at your own pace and which is easy to navigate to find what you need. It has additional resources and links to relevant advice and methods for different contexts and sectors.

The Wellbeing Measures Bank is a searchable database of metrics and measures that can be used to assess changes in wellbeing in a project evaluation. You can select filters to help choose the right measures for their evaluation.

By using this guide you can:

  • understand wellbeing better
  • find out what really matters to the people you support
  • show others the difference you make to people’s lives
  • improve what you do and have an even bigger impact.

The guide was created by Ingrid Abreu Scherer and Margherita Musella at the What Works Centre for Wellbeing in 2021. The Centre operated from 2014 to 2024.

Since April 2024 the guide has been hosted by the VCSE Data and Insights Observatory and Nottingham Business School. The guide will continue to be developed in its new home to ensure the advice and measures are up to date and to respond to the needs and interests of its users.

You can contact the VCSE Observatory at vcseobservatory@ntu.ac.uk and Ingrid Abreu Scherer about this guide at ingrid.abreuscherer@ntu.ac.uk.
